Babcock teams in Donnington and Ashchurch have been recognized by the British Army for restoring two Rapid Battlefield Ambulances in just eight weeks.

According to a report by the UK Defence Journal, the vehicles had been delivered to Babcock’s Donnington facility for routine repairs, but inspections revealed extensive structural degradation.

One ambulance required a complete replacement of the chassis and bulkhead, while both vehicles underwent a full regeneration process, including comprehensive structural repairs and a complete repaint.

Despite the scale of the task, the work was completed within a period of just eight weeks. According to the company, teams at both locations worked collaboratively to design and deliver a solution that ensured the vehicles could be returned to frontline service.

Following completion of the work, Ministry of Defence personnel at Ashchurch transported both ambulances to SMC Marchwood, where they are being prepared for onward deployment by sea later this month.

“I was delighted to witness the extensive and rapid repairs that Babcock carried out to ensure we could maintain an overseas casualty evacuation capability,” said Brigadier Matt Wilkinson.

“Once again, it reinforced for me the ingenuity, determination to succeed, and pride in supporting His Majesty’s Armed Forces that we see at the very best of our industry partners, and for which I am extremely grateful.”
